In the Jan. 2 edition of the Star Tribune, Business Section, Page D8, there's a Business Forum column titled State must find smarter ways to serve elders by Kathryn Roberts, CEO of Ecumen.

Referendum Presentation & Discussion
 

Many of you, our University Village of Winona residents, are new to the area and not familiar with some of the community issues that we have an opportunity have to vote on this coming Tuesday, Nov 8th. One of those issues is the referendum for the Winona Area Public Schools.

UVW Concierge Susan Althoff has invited two Winona public school board representatives to the Village House on College Rd this Monday, November 7 from 4:30 to 5:00 pm for a mini forum and discussion about the referendum. UVW Residents and the public are welcome. Please let Susan know you will be coming so she can make enough coffee. 454-4322 by noon Monday.

The Rochester Post-Bulletin will be featuring University Village of Winona in one of its articles this week. The column, Winona development targets lifelong learners, was written by Edie Grossfield, and aims its light on the opportunity for seniors that UVW has to offer, and gives the personal stories of a few residents, showing how they are taking full advantage of the opportunities the Village possesses in conjunction with St. Mary's

Winona's next museum: The Minnesota Marine Art Museum
 
The Winona Daily News has an article this week titled Heritage society picks name for new museum.
There is a new name for Winona's next museum: The Minnesota Marine Art Museum. The Maritime Heritage Society announced the name Tuesday, along with a Sept. 6 groundbreaking ceremony for its planned museum to be built near Winona's Commercial Harbor.... The Maritime Heritage Society was formed in Winona two years ago as an effort to bring the Mississippi River dredge William A. Thompson here upon its retirement after more than 75 years of service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Winona Online Democracy
 

Winona is one of the few cities in Minnesota to have an active e-democracy group. Winona Online Democracy maintains an email list for the discussion of civic issues. Any citizen and join and participate.

The goal of Winona Online Democracy is to empower, inform, and engage the citizenry by creating an ongoing community-wide discussion of local public issues. It seeks to reawaken a spirit of more active participation in civic life and provide an environment in which learning and knowledge building can take place. It seeks to be an agent for change in our community by improving the quality of decision making and providing a direct link between the public and community leaders.
